After 10 years of usage, vehicles with LPG tanks must undergo an inspection. This consists of testing the integrity of the tank and evaluating the emergency pressure relief valves to guarantee that they are working properly. Once the inspection has been completed and any needed parts replaced, a date stamp will be applied to certify that the LPG tank can be used for another decade without any danger.
When recertifying an LPG tank, it must typically be removed from the vehicle for thorough examination. Tanks designed to reside primarily in the vehicle often fare well but can be tricky to access. Tanks located on the underside or outside of 4WD and commercial vehicles, however, are more prone to damage from external elements like corrosion, as they are more exposed. Nonetheless, they are easier to inspect.
Additionally, if you intend to sell your vehicle with a LPG fuel system it must have a valid Certificate of Inspection prior to sale.
